Artist Biography 

Abrar Al Mouktaran is a Syrian-Canadian artist who has recently earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from OCAD University in Toronto. Specializing in oil painting, Al Mouktaran intricately weaves her personal narrative into her work, often portraying herself as the central figure. With each brushstroke, she tells her own story, breathing life into her canvases and infusing them with a soulful depth that resonates with viewers. 

Al Mouktaran's artistic journey began shortly after her arrival in Canada, where, she discovered art as a universal language, bridging linguistic divides. Through her paintings, she found a voice that didn't rely on words; each stroke told a story, and each colour spoke volumes. 

Fueled by her love for family and her boundless passion for life, she dedicates herself to her work daily, eagerly anticipating each new project as a canvas for her creativity to flourish.



Artist Statement 

My art is an intimate reflection of my life experiences, channeling my emotions and beliefs through the lens of figuration and representation. Central to my work is the human figure, often featuring self-portraits, family members, or other significant individuals in my life. These familiar faces create a sphere of intimacy and connection, inviting viewers into a space of personal familiarity.

Through self-portraiture, I explore and celebrate my cultural identity, achievements, and personal journey. My aim is to offer comfort and resonance to those who share similar experiences, forging a sense of shared understanding.

Each brushstroke in my work is intentional, with colors carefully selected and every detail meticulously planned. My creative process is deliberate and detailed, focusing on the intricate aspects of each piece. Immersed in my canvas, I ensure that every element contributes meaningfully to the narrative, resulting in art that is both thoughtful and deeply personal.
